Terry Zhou Fang

Terry is pursuing dual master degrees in Actuarial Science and Mathematical Risk Management in GSU. He was once a PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering. Later in his life, he figured out that academic career is not a way for him. He was intrigued in risk management and Actuarial Science after the financial crisis took place. He then moved to GSU to prepare his career transition.

During his stay in GSU, he receives full scholarship as a graduate researcher. His strong math background and solid programming skills enable his high quality job. He is very happy about the life in GSU not only because he now can learn things he likes, but also because he is conducting the work which exerts his specialty.

Terry is always seeking excellence in his life. When he was an undergraduate student, he ranked 1/83 in his major and was considered the best student in major, one of the best in the university. He actively involved in different activities in school. Acting as the leader in a team, Terry won several solid achievements in the contest, including the second price in the Challenge Cup and third price in the Mathematical Modeling Contest. Terry not only achieved excellence academically, but also achieved excellence in other aspects. He won the third singles, second doubles in the Badminton Competition held by the college. He acted as the vice president in his class for 3 years and won Excellent on the administration Award because of the good work. And he frequently attended volunteer works in academic meetings and sports competitions.

Terry values the motto: “Devil is in the detail”. Meticulously solving problems with the big picture in mind is the key he learned to be successful when he was an engineering student. These are all well-illustrated in his previous projects.

Terry has a strong problem solving skills. And he is willing to take the responsibility when the team needs him. He is frequently selected as the team leader for a project and the project schedule usually went very smooth. And every time the team finished the projects in time with high quality.

Terry’s current interest includes financial risk management in the insurance industry. Terry believes his analytical thinking, solid math background, problem solving skills and engineering attitude will lead his career to success.
