Roger Miller is an executive general manager who has built a successful career by improving the financial performance of the organizations he has touched. In each situation he has led the company to balance growth and efficiency to achieve a profitable outcome. He has a unique blend of consulting and operating experience and has amassed a set of tools and skills that drives individual and organizational effectiveness. He has been an operator inside organizations, as well as an advisor and consultant from the outside. Most recently, Roger was Vice President and General Manager International for La-Z-Boy, Inc. with P&L responsibility for all branded product operations outside of the Americas with operations in the UK, Middle East, India, Asia and Australia/New Zealand. During his first 18 months, Roger developed the global strategy and restructured nearly every business to ensure alignment with the plan. The restructuring required the closing of a wholly owned operation in the UK. To ensure there was no interruption in the UK business, Roger identified, evaluated and licensed a new La-Z-Boy partner in the UK in less than 9 months. The transfer of the UK business to the new partner was uncommonly smooth and made certain the La-Z-Boy brand image remained untarnished. At the same time and as part of the growth strategy, Roger oversaw the expansion of the La-Z-Boy manufacturing joint venture outside of Bangkok, Thailand which was completed on time and under budget. Roger officially joined La-Z-Boy after more than two years of working with La-Z-Boy’s senior leadership team as their strategy consultant. Roger guided the leadership team to formulate a strategy that rationalized and integrated the many furniture businesses La-Z-Boy owned as a result of the Ladd Furniture, Inc. acquisition and set a clear direction for the future of the company. Upon joining the CEO’s executive leadership team in July 2004 as an employee, Roger’s immediate assignment was to oversee the closing of the Pennsylvania House Furniture Company’s operations in Lewisburg, PA, outsourcing the production and transitioning continuing operations to North Carolina After successfully completing the Pennsylvania House transformation, Roger developed and implemented a key expense reduction program for the entire company, driven by process improvements, to remove structural costs from every La-Z-Boy business unit. Through his leadership and resolute determination, each year the program exceeded cost cutting goals of removing 10% of operating costs. Prior to joining La-Z-Boy, Roger was a trusted advisor and consultant to some of the most respected US companies. He was a partner and leader for the North American Strategy Practice at Kepner-Tregoe, Inc., and in private practice for nearly a decade. At Kepner-Tregoe, he had the opportunity to assist numerous companies such as Lowe’s Companies and Thyssen Krupp Elevator (formerly Dover Elevator) formulate and execute winning business strategies. He initially assisted clients in bringing new products to market and delivered more fundamental strategic advice. In his early career, Roger enjoyed business experiences at Ford Motor Co. as an engineer and at AlliedSignal where he held positions of increasing responsibility. Roger is a graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY. After West Point, he successfully completed Army Ranger and paratrooper training. He spent nearly 3 years with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, KY. He transferred to Germany for an additional 3 years with the 8th Infantry Division where he was rewarded with the responsibility, at the age of 25, to command an artillery unit. He trained and oversaw a unit in the testing and certification of its capability to deliver tactical nuclear weapons as part of the front line in the Cold War. He and his wife, Deborah, have four children living and working throughout the US. He enjoys adventure travels with his most memorable and recent trips to the summit of Yosemite’s Half Dome and a 3 day summit attempt up the glacier covered slopes of Mt Rainer.
