Peter Sortwell

In 2001 Peter started Arborwell, a professional tree management firm. Arborwell has been listed as the top 100 fastest growing companies in the bay area by the San francisco Business Times and has been listed 2 years in a row in the Inc. 5000.

In 2007 peter was named Entrepreneur of The Year by the East Bay Business times.

In 2009 Peter was named "Most Admired CEO" by the San Francisco Business Times

Arborwell operates throughout California with locations in Hayward, Redwood City, Sacramento, San Diego and San Jose.

 
Peter Sortwell (Alvin) has been involved in the tree and landscape business for over 30 years. Peter grew up in Beverly Farms Massachusetts working for his father's company, S & S Tree and Landscape Service. S & S provided tree and landscape maintenance services to high-end estates on the north shore of Boston.

After studying Plants and Soils Sciences at the University of Maine, he returned to the Boston area to run the family business.

After ten years running S & S Tree and Landscape, Peter moved to the bay area where he worked for The Davey Tree Expert Company as the San Francisco District Manager.

In 1986, Peter went to work for Environmental Care Inc. with the sole purpose of opening a tree care division for the largest landscape maintenance company in the country. Arbor Care was started in the San Jose branch that year. Under Peter’s direction and leadership, Arbor Care grew to 15 operating locations nation wide and produced over 16 million dollars in revenues. As Vice President and General Manager, Peter has been innovative and creative in the development of tree maintenance proposals and management plans that have led to some of the largest private tree care contracts, both nationally and in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Peter is a certified arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture, and served a six year seat on the board of the National Arborist Association where he was actively involved in the development of the A-300 pruning standards. He received the “Presidents Award” in 1997 for his work in the designing and development of the “Excellence in Arboriculture Awards” program.

Peter lives in San Mateo California with his wife of 23 years and their two sons. He is actively involved with the San Mateo Little League Association, and Aragon High School. He is currently sole owner and President of Arborwell, Inc.
