Career
Marilyn Jeans has worked in the meeting and travel industry for more than 20 years. During this time, she has traveled to over 40 international destinations for meetings and events, coordinating the travel logistics and activities for both small and large groups from various business sectors, including Fortune 500 companies. She has organized programs throughout the United States and traveled extensively to most major cities.
After 6 years of working in the incentive travel industry, Marilyn took a position with the International Woodworking Fair, one of the largest trade shows for the woodworking and furniture manufacturing industries, which was relocating its offices to the Atlanta area. She was responsible for organizing the offices and “setting up shop” which involved purchasing equipment, arranging the workflow space, ordering supplies and all administrative duties in this 2 person office. In time, the office grew to 7 and Marilyn’s responsibilities as Director of Programs & Administration grew as well. In addition to general office management responsibilities, she was also the financial coordinator for budgeting and accounting duties. Site selection and activities for the twice yearly Board of Directors meetings was part of her responsibilities as well as preparing materials and minutes of the meetings. She negotiated and contracted with more than 40 hotels for the biannual tradeshow with an attendance of more than 40,000. One of her favorite areas of responsibility was the coordination of Design Emphasis, a student furniture design competition.
In 2007, Marilyn decided to try her hand at entrepreneurship and left IWF to begin a career as an independent contractor in the executive assistance and meetings and convention industries. During this time, she has had the opportunity to work with a variety of associations and companies and travel from Dallas to Dubai.
