LARRY LUNDY
WHO IS LARRY LUNDY
Larry Lundy was born and raised in a small town in Northeast Arkansas.
Larry became a people person very early in life while working in his parents restaurant. Larry ,at a very young age, read the daily menus on the radio. Later he waited tables, acted as cashier, was even the dish washer at various times.
Larry began taking piano lessons in the first grade and continued throughout high school. While in high school, Larry was guest soloist for numerous benefits and competed in many talent contests. The old Ted Mack Amateur Hour was one of them. During the last three years of high school, Larry played piano with the Valiants, a rock and roll band.
COLLEGE YEARS
Larry wanted to be an architect and was originally accepted to begin college at Geogia Tech. However, prior to attending Georgia Tech, he changed his mind and enrolled at the University of Arkansas located in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Five years later upon leaving college, ironically, one of the job offers was with Delta Airlines located in Atlanta, Georgia where Georgia Tech is also located. The other offer was with Safeway Stores, Incorporated which was, at the time, the largest food chain in the world. He accepted the offer from Safeway and moved his young family to the Dallas area.
Larry and his college roommate had been in Dallas for a football game the weekend prior to the assassination of President John Kennedy in Dealey Plaza. Larry and his roommate agreed that when they graduated they would move their families to the Dallas area. While working as an investigator for Safeway, Larry worked with several retired FBI agents who had closely worked the assassination.
AFTER COLLEGE
Larry worked in corporate for Safeway Stores for 15 years. Larry was based in Dallas, Texas but worked as a corporate investigator assigned to the corporate offices then located in Oakland, California.
About the time Larry left Safeway, a Dallas gentleman had developed a way of providing cheaper long distance telephone service. After several years of feuding with the telephone company, Mr. Carter won a major law suit. Carterphone was based in Dallas and Mr. Carters winning of that lawsuit was the beginning of the discount long distance telephone service companies.
Larry was one of the original discount long distance salesmen in Dallas selling service for a small start-up company founded by several east Texas oil men. Larry later sold long distance for another company that eventually became known as SPRINT.
Larry began his career in the computer related industry in the early 1980's working for a start-up company selling POS systems to small retail establishments. About the time that company went bankrupt, a large Atlanta based company was opening in Dallas and Larry was hired and trained to become a professional technical recruiter. This seemed like a good choice since it mixed his people skills with his many years as an investigator. The investigative techniques became very helpfull in locating and recruiting computer professionals.
In 1987, after working for two different recruiting companies in Dallas, Larry set up his own company. With this company, Larry recruited computer, accounting, and manufacturing professionals on a world wide basis for some of the best know companies in the world. In 1990, Larry began a contracting company to suppliment the recruiting company.
A partial listing of clients included: McDonnell Douglas, Hughes Aircraft, Boeing, General Motors, Mars, Inc. , Digital Equipment, FMC Corporation, Hewlett Parkard, Compaq, Marvin Windows, ASK Software, Abbott Labs, andOracle.
Throughout the years of recruiting, Larry has used the same opening line when recruiting a candidate by telephone; "Hi, this is Larry Lundy. I am a dirty ole headhunter and I want to talk with you about a possible job opening". Since this opening line is total opposite of what a recruiter would say, it always gets the persons attention.
