Social Networking - Why QAlias

Use social networking sites wisely

If you are currently job hunting, you can count on your name being Googled by some prospective employers. That may lead to the discovery of your Facebook, MySpace or LinkedIn profile, videos of you on YouTube, or blog posts you've made to your own or other people's blogs. Is what those employers find going to help or hurt your candidacy as they read and put together the bits and pieces of who you are? Or will they find any online profile of you at all?

Interactive, online communities and electronic socializing -- sometimes called Web 2.0 -- are drastically impacting the Internet. As a job seeker today, you need to be tech-savvy, aware and wise in your use of electronic media. Learn how to use online collaboration tools and social networking sites to strategically market yourself for career success.

Leverage your network of 'weak ties' - acquaintances who are not close friends - to uncover information about industries and organizations. Nurture your online connections to manage your online reputation, build your list of contacts, develop business relationships, and find out about unadvertised opportunities. The line between social and professional networking is blurring, so use connections wisely.

Look at your reputation online and control the image you are projecting while always being honest and sincere. Realize that this is part of a transparent public conversation. You can really shine if you do it right. It's like living in a glass house where potential employers have access to your personal life. Realize that once you put information online, it can be accessed by those important weak ties. Prepare to answer direct interview questions about things posted by you and about you.

Note how much information online about you is relevant or damaging, and figure out how you can differentiate yourself from others with the same name. You may be able to cover up your digital dirt by crowding it out with positive information. By steadily expanding your online presence and increasing your visibility, you put yourself on the path to digital distinction, where you articulate your unique promise of value and communicate your brand.

Be findable. If you effectively mass all of your Web 2.0 aggregates, lifestreaming applications, and communities, you are the one who is going to be found by employers. Write a blog to give your skills and interests increased exposure. Position yourself as an expert by blogging about your topic and building relationships with others who are thinking and talking about the same topic. Create a narrative resume, telling stories which highlight your skills and experience and show your personality and passion. Write about your accomplishments, hobbies and volunteering. Describe your dream job and explain what you might do to get it. Show how imaginative and technically savvy you can be.

As personal electronic networks grow, users can voyeuristically browse the profiles of friends-of-friends-of-friends. If there's someone working in an industry or for a company you're interested in, you can usually find someone in your own network to broker an introduction.

Social networking media are invaluable communication tools. They can help keep you organized, keep you in touch with your group, arrange leisure time activities and share photos of your college life with distant friends and relatives. You can also use social media to put you ahead of other job candidates.

TRILATERAL LEADERSHIP LEDGER®

TRILATERAL LEADERSHIP LEDGER®

The Trilateral Leadership Ledger(TLL) comes from the #1 best selling book Launching A Leadership Revolution and is written by authors Orrin Woodward and Chris Brady.  The ability to clearly define leadership abilities in the areas of Character, Tasks and Relationships is exciting and innovative.  If you look at why individuals, groups, teams or corporations fail, it is because they ignored at least one of these areas.

The power of the individual or team is the product of the three categories and is called the Leadership Effectiveness.  There is a twofold benefit within the TLL.  It can not only show what your strengths are, it can also clearly show you what areas you need to improve.  I have heard much about focusing only on your strengths but Chris Brady said it best, "you can't ignore your weaknesses because no one else does".  The most effective and efficient leader is one who is balanced in ALL three areas or character, tasks and relationships.

The TLL is simple and ingenious.  Each category; character, tasks and relationships, consists of a series of keywords.  These keywords are rated as 0 being never, to 10 being always. The lowest scored keyword is what the individual or team should focus on improving in a given time frame.  If the action is taken to improve in the keyword and the results prove implementation, the score for that keyword goes up. The next lowest keyword is then focused on and improved, and the improvement cycle continues.

All great leaders continue in such an improvement cycle for all their lives. The power of the TLL is in its ability to take the guesswork out of how effective a persons “soft skills” are.  It is these abilities that allow a person to move up the corporate levels or be more successful in business.

Have you ever been to training or had a team trained in an exciting team setting.  Then a month or two later, the excitement is gone and the team is back in stagnant mode.  This is kind of like going on a diet.  We have formulated a comprehensive and cost effective training plan that will keep the team communicating and sharing ideas and personal growth stories.  It truly harnesses the power of the team.  We rely on a duplicate-able system of books, cds and association, therefore an expensive trainer/consultant and/or offsite space or travel is eliminated.  For a YEAR of comprehensive materials and training the cost is less than $1400.

Success sometimes looks like mission impossible because we can't visualize it or "life" happens and seems to derail us. It is the time of the year that most people reflect on their accomplishments and set new goals for the coming year. We will NOT do a goals workshop, but you will create a personal MISSION statement based on your passions and values, then create a VISION statement of what your future WILL BE like using the statement I AM..... Speaker will be James Halter. Make sure to bring your lunch.
