About Herb Simonoff

Herb Simonoff is the President/CEO of Hasma, Inc., a Daily Money Management Company.  With constant and careful attention to detail, he ministers to the needs of others with tireless enthusiasm.

Herb was born, and spent his youth, in New York City.  At the age of 17, while still an undergraduate student at New York University, Herb went to work, part time, for his intended father-in-law at his electronics store on New York’s famed Radio Row.

After graduating from college, he married his school-time sweetheart, and served on active duty with the US Army for 2 years.  Upon discharge from military service, Herb returned to work, full time, alongside his father-in-law in the electronics industry.  In the spring of 1960, several months before his 24th birthday, he opened his own store in mid-town Manhattan where he sold high quality audio and video equipment.

Herb spent 33 years gaining experience from designing, building and operating several electronics stores in New York & New Jersey.  A lifetime of business transactions that encompassed negotiating with suppliers, purchasing merchandise and paying bills enabled personal growth in the art of interpersonal relations and communications.

After handling the personal financial affairs of family members and friends for many years, HERB SIMONOFF formed HASMA, Inc., a Daily Money Management Company, to provide a service to those individuals who have difficulty managing their own money, paying their bills on time, organizing their records, or wanting someone to look out for, and safeguard, their interests.  HERB SIMONOFF recognizes those needs and is the person of choice to do the job honestly and efficiently.

HERB SIMONOFF is highly qualified to perform his duties as a Daily Money Manager in a professional and ethical manner.  His high moral standards, coupled with over 45 years of experience in the business world, taught him the importance of due diligence and exacting accuracy.  HERB SIMONOFF is extremely comfortable in negotiations and knows the value of trust.

From the very beginning, HERB SIMONOFF became an active member of the American Association of Daily Money Managers and pledged to conduct his business according to its very strict Code of Ethics.  Be assured that he will look out for your interests as if you were his own parent.

MY Mission

My mission is to take care of the daily financial needs of individuals who either lack the knowledge, lack the time, or are incapable of doing so as a result of illness or disability.  I am not looking to manage their investment portfolios, but I will help them safeguard their assets by attending to the necessary chores of recurrent budget management, monthly bill paying, etc.

Although I have knowledge of the securities market and insurance products, having held a license for life insurance sales and registration with the National Association of Security Dealers, I have no desire to sell stocks, bonds, annuities or insurance to my clients.

I would rather help them with the assembly of important documents for storage in a secure location, organize the information necessary for income tax filing, review their credit card and bank statements, see to the payments of their bills in a timely manner, monitor their medical insurance benefits and generally look out for their financial interests.

What is Daily Money Management?

Daily Money Managers (DMMs) provide personal business assistance to clients who have difficulty in managing their personal monthly affairs.  The services meet a continuum of needs, from managing and keeping track of financial and medical insurance papers, to assisting with check writing and maintaining bank accounts.

Who needs the help of a DMM?

There are many factors which contribute to the need for a DMM.  DMMs work with senior citizens, people whose careers make it difficult for them to find time for their own paperwork, and with people whose medical issues simply make it difficult to keep up with their finances, among others.

Within the senior client base, most have a need for DMM services due to a physical change precipitated by the aging process, such as limited vision, arthritis or other conditions that limit the ability to write, dementia, or a simple loss of ability to follow through on tasks.  It is not uncommon for the adult child or an older person to seek the assistance of a DMM if the child does not feel they have the time or ability to maintain their parents’ affairs.

What types of tasks will a DMM handle?

The expertise of DMMs covers a broad range of tasks, and the actual work they do depends on the client need.  However, the scope of a DMM’s work generally includes the following:

Ø       Bill-paying, including calls to payees regarding incorrect bills and preparation of checks for clients to sign.

Ø       Balancing checkbooks and maintaining organization of bank accounts.

Ø       Preparing and delivering bank deposits.

Ø       Organizing tax documents and other paperwork.

Ø       Negotiating with creditors.

Ø       Deciphering medical insurance papers and verifying proper processing of claims.

Ø       General organization assistance.

Ø       Providing referrals to legal, tax, and investment professionals.

What will the services of a DMM cost and what are the common billing methods?

Most DMMs charge for their services on an hourly basis, with rates varying with geographic areas.  Some DMMs request payment at the time of service and others bill on a monthly or bi-weekly basis.

If I hire a DMM, why do I need an accountant, lawyer or social worker?

A DMM does not take the place of professionals in the accounting, investment, or social service fields.  Their work complements the work of other professionals by facilitating the completion of the day to day tasks rather then determining long-term plans.

For example, a DMM, by organizing and maintaining accurate financial records for a client, can easily compile the necessary documents for tax preparation by an accountant.  When the accountant has prepared the required tax returns, the DMM makes sure they are correctly signed, that the appropriate checks are attached, and that returns are mailed on time.

Unless your DMM happens to have separate professional credentials in other fields, he or she should not be offering you legal, investment, or tax advice.  However, a good DMM should be able to recognize pertinent issues and refer you to professionals and organizations qualified to provide the other services you may need.

Will I be giving up my independence if I hire a DMM?

On the contrary, the assistance of a DMM is often the piece of life’s puzzle which allows many seniors to avoid guardianship or complete loss of independence.

If you find that you are late in paying bills, or do not understand certain financial forms that come in the mail, your family might pressure you to move out of your home or turn over your affairs to a legal representative.  Often, a twice-monthly visit from a DMM will allow you to keep your finances under your own control, with the DMM helping you to keep on track and to avoid errors which may have raised the concern of loved ones.

The involvement of an outsider in personal financial affairs may be too intimidating for some, but most clients of DMMs find that once they have established a relationship with their DMM, they don’t know how they survived without them.

HASMA, INC.

A Daily Money Management Company

You live in a city far from your 75-year-old mother.  In telephone conversations during the past year, you’ve begun to suspect she’s growing increasingly forgetful.  But she assures you everything is fine.  Now a neighbor has called to say your mother hasn’t paid her utility bills in three months and the utility company is threatening to cut off the power.  What should you do?

During a visit with your mother, you notice a stack of wire transfer receipts totaling more than $65,000.  When you ask what they’re for, she says she’s investing in a new hi-tech company.  After you investigate further, you think she is being scammed by fraudulent telemarketers.  What can you do?

Your 82-year-old father is overwhelmed with financial documents and gets confused and frustrated when he sorts through them.  He often accidentally overdraws his checking account or forgets to pay bills.  His only income is Social Security, so he has to be careful with his money.  You’re concerned he can’t  manage his financial affairs any longer.

                                     What should you do?

Now is the time to start using the services of HERB SIMONOFF as your
