Remembering Lady
We are celebrating the passing of Lady Star. She was our love and companion for more than 15 years and we will miss her. During our last few months I was able to capture our time together in this Poem My beautiful black poodle can't run or play catch with me. We just watch the squirrels as they run temptingly.
LADY STAR AND ME
We just share the quiet as we approach old age together, my Lady Star and me
Lady like to ride in the car, her ears flying in the breeze. She like to see the neighborhood, the cars, the kids, the trees
I think she remembers her blue ribbon days, when she trotted proudly, her pompom tail held high.
But now we stroll languidly underneath the autumn sky.
She smells the things she can no longer see, and doesn't even hear the squirrels scamper up a tree.
I passed my 75th birthday, she is past her fifteenth. We now share old age together, my Lady Star and me.
We wander our evening rounds, Lady Star and me, she with her bony arthritic hips, me with my arthritic knee.
We sniff the cool autumn breeze on a crisp November night, her coat is mostly grey, and my hair is mostly white.
We are growing old together and doing it gracefully, my beautiful black poodle, Lady Star and me.
