Christina McCauley, a 20 year old with a golden voice, has just begun her journey as the  first ever Miss Southern Empire 2009, winning preliminary competition in  both swimsuit and talent at the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta.  This has been a very exiciting time in Christina's life as just last year she  was named the 50th Golden Anniversary Miss Cobb County 2008 winning the talent award for her captivating performance of Pucinni’s “Chi il bel sogno di Doretta.”  Christina also won the swimsuit competition.  Representing Cobb County at last year's Miss Georgia's  2008  Scholarship competition, Christina placed in the top 5 as 3rd runner up and overall evening gown winner. 

 

Her platform of “Scoliosis Awareness” is very personal to her, since she was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 10.  She endured wearing a back brace for four years  at up to 23 hours a day. She credits early detection and compliance as the key to her recovery.  Her platform "Scoliosis Awareness," centers on the importance of early detection  which interfaces directly with the new Miss America national platform, the Children’s Miracle Network.  Christina was treated at Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta, one of the 7 children’s hospitals in Georgia that is funded through CMN.  Christina is a volunteer at Children's Hospital of Alabama

 

Her energetic cheering section includes parents Jack and Rebecca McCauley and sisters, Meghan, 17 a rising senior at Hillgrove HS, and Katherine, 16 a rising junior at Pebblebrook HS. Christina has had the opportunity to perform in various venues including the Cobb Energy Center.  Her goal is to obtain a degree in Music with emphasis on Vocal Performance and Education with her eye on both the Broadway stage and the Metropolitan Opera.

 

Also a winner in the classroom, Christina is a dean’s list student at Birmingham-Southern College, where she was selected for membership in Phi Eta Sigma, national scholastic honorary society.  The class Salutatorian with a 4.2 GPA,  was named  STAR Student (highest SAT/GPA combination) at Pebblebrook High School, Cobb County Center for Excellence in the Performing Arts, where she graduated in 2006.  She performed for two years with ComPAny, the prestigious performing arts group at Pebblebrook.  The rising senior at BSC is a member of Chi Omega fraternity and was selected for the sensational Hilltop Singers, (BSC Show Choir) who perform across the country. Her freshman year she was a member of the Southern Chorale and  is  also  President of the  Concert Choir at BSC. 

 

To date,   Christina has won almost $30,000 in cash scholarships under the Miss America Organization and America's Junior Miss Program. She was the 2005 Cobb County’s Talented Teen, 2005 Miss Cobb County’s Outstanding Teen and a top ten finalist in Miss Georgia’s Outstanding Teen.  Two  years ago, she represented Miss Cherokee County in the Miss Georgia Pageant 2007 where she was named 4th runner-up, her very first time competing on the Miss Georgia stage in the Miss division.  Christina will represent Miss Southern Empire at the Miss Georgia Pageant in June 2009.
