Bonnie Sermons Sullivan is a Healthcare Informatics Executive with extensive experience across payor and provider industries.  She has a proven ability to design, develop, and manage forward-thinking business processes spanning the entire improvement and information systems life cycles for decision support, care delivery and finance.  Ms. Sullivan has a demonstrated focus on delivering optimal, quantifiable customer value.  She is recognized for her change leadership and innovation in designing and operationalizing electronic medical records, claims, referrals, analytics, provider data, and patient management.  Ms. Sullivan is passionately committed to improving the healthcare experience in America using integrated delivery and data.

Most recently Ms. Sullivan was with Aetna as Head - Business Planning and Management Office (BMO) Informatics Department, Informatics Portfolio Manager, and National Accounts Solution Management Executive Sponsor.  She also held roles at Aetna as the Data Warehouse (DW) & Medical Management Systems Business Owner and National Medical Services (NMS) Portfolio Manager.  Previously, Ms. Sullivan was with CIGNA as an AVP of Information Management and held multiple roles at Kaiser Permanente, including Implementation Lead, National Insurance Solutions; and Director, Financial IS.  During her early career, Ms. Sullivan was with the Greater Southeast Community Hospital in Washington, DC where she was a Systems Coordinator in the Patient Accounting Department and with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of the National Capital Area (FEHBP Division), where she advanced to Senior Accountant after starting as a Claims Reviewer.  Her experience spans a wide array of applications on multiple platforms.

Representative career accomplishments for Ms. Sullivan include:

  • Providing direction to an Aetna implementation team regarding the required data for insured records in support of a new care-focused product offering for Bank of America. Ms. Sullivan supported the development of a plan to integrate processes and systems and was projected to deliver estimated wellness savings of $32M.
  • Integrating Aetna's medical management staff / systems and managing the RFP process for Integrated Care Services vendor selection to prioritize stakeholder needs and support implementation of a national Medical Management Strategy.
  • Facilitating the steering committee at Aetna and guiding the technology blueprint for a new enterprise data warehouse.
  • Founding Aetna's NMS Portfolio Committee to ensure engagement of and representation for all business parties (claim, member, provider, plan, reporting, eCommerce, and informatics) in decisions regarding technology needs.
  • Receiving exceptional employee survey rankings for four consecutive years while at Aetna for Leadership, Opportunities, and Work-Life balance by collaborating with staff to optimize productivity and development opportunities.
  • Spearheading CIGNA's cross-functional effort to overhaul plan sponsor reporting. Ms. Sullivan oversaw implementation of an information repository system that increased sharing of best practices and eliminated duplication of efforts.
  • Leading the re-design of Kaiser's claims and referrals strategy, resulting in $8M savings through process improvements and EDI.
  • Persuading Kaiser's IS Steering Committee to use business process redesign and industry best practices during systems implementations. Ms. Sullivan identified $53.5M in benefits and $12.8M in savings as well as improving satisfaction with IT support.

Ms. Sullivan earned her MBA in Health Services Administration at Howard University's School of Business and her BA in Biology (with a minor in Accounting) from Lafayette College.  She is certified by the AMA in Project Management; has received formal training in change management, strategic planning, and team leadership/talent management.  

Ms. Sullivan is an active contributor to the community as Chairwoman of a Parent Network aimed at "Closing the Achievement Gap" for the North Penn School District and as a recent Board member of the New Horizons Montessori School.  She also served as a Girl Scout Leader for many years and launched a mentoring program called OPTIONS (Opening Pathways to Infinite Opportunities Now).
